Our anaesthesia group began as the Anaesthesia Bureau. Founding members Dr Steve Cox, Dr John Edgar, Dr Stan Hunt, Dr Brendon Lyne, Dr Don MacCulloch, Dr Ken Ullrich, Dr Cedric Hoskins and Dr Gerry Wong were pioneers in establishing anaesthesia services in Auckland, at a time when these services were dominated by a GP anaesthesia model.
The group was restructured as the Remuera Anaesthesia Centre and based in 97 Remuera Road. In 1987 the group moved its office to its present location in St Marks Road. The members were actively involved in setting up and refining the way that private anaesthesia services operated utilising specially qualified anesthetists.
The name of the company was changed to Anaesthesia Auckland and was incorporated in 1994. Since its initial beginning, the company has grown to be one of the major providers of high quality anaesthesia services in the private sector.
Today our membership provides a wide range of anaesthesia services, committed to providing you with the highest quality, patient focused care - before, during and after your surgery, to ensure your surgical journey is pleasant and safe.
Anaesthesia Auckland is a collective of specialist anaesthetists. Our highly qualified team cover all sub-specialties of surgery and have working relationships with all private hospitals and surgeons’ rooms.
An anaesthetist is a specialist doctor. After completing medical school, your anaesthetist will have spent at least two years working in a hospital before beginning their specialty training. The anaesthetic training program takes a minimum of five years, and is overseen by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. It is one of the most comprehensive and well-respected anaesthetic training programs in the world. In addition to caring for patients during surgery, trainee anaesthetists spend time working in Intensive Care, in pre-assessment clinics and managing postoperative pain.
Most of our doctors have also trained internationally, most commonly in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. All of our anaesthetists are involved with continuing professional development programmes - ensuring they are up to date with all the latest evidence and technology to care for you safely.
